Warpstorm

Warning: This definition may contain spoilers from any number of Games Workshop novels or source books.

Warpstorm: A warpstorm is a cataclysmic event where the fabric of material space is torn, and the stuff of the Warp leaks into reality. This creates a terrible, roiling rift in space; where the normal laws of physics, space and time no longer apply. A ship unlucky enough to be caught in a warpstorm can suffer a variety of fates; the mildest of which is to be flung off course by light years or mere years in time. More likely is that the vessel will be flung deep into the warp, never to emerge before her crew succumb to the denizens thereof, or starve to death. Many crews would prefer to be torn apart by the fluxes of the storm than suffer such a fate.

Some warpstorms are larger and more violent than others. While most storms last for hours, years, or decades, there are those which stretch across sectors of space and have lasted for millennia. The Eye of Terror and the Maelstrom are just the two best known of the galaxies warpstorms, and whilst the Eye is certainly the largest, it is by no means alone.
