Window Tax: A tax legislated for by Emperor Karl-Franz in 2495 (Imperial Calendar). It imposed levies upon property based on the number of windows the building possessed. It was regarded as an unfair and diabolical piece of legislation targetting the poor by many students and academics in the Empire, and was adopted as cause celebre by insurrectionists and revolutionaries. Protests against this led to the Window Tax Riots in Altdorf.
Real-world Reference: Window Tax was imposed in England, Scotland and Ireland in 1696 by William III. It was extremely unpopular and caused many poorer families to brick up windows entirely to avoid it. The extremely rich built extra windows to demonstrate how wealthy they could afford to be. Window Tax was returned in particular force buring the Napoleonic War under the ministry of William Pitt the Younger.
